RENTON, Wash. — A 31-year-old Seattle man arrested after the body of a missing Mercer Island man was found in his hotel room, police said.
Detectives responded to a tip about a missing 61-year-old Mercer Island man that led them to a hotel in the 1800 block of East Valley Road.
The man had not been seen since April 23.
Detectives smelled a foul odor coming from the room and asked for assistance from the Renton Police Department.
Police were able to talk on the phone with a man in the room, who refused to let officers enter.
Police then got a search warrant and entered the room and found human remains in a plastic container in the bathroom.
The department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and and the body has not been identified.
The suspect was booked on unrelated charges until the cause of the death of the victim is determined.
