SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Foundation is looking to raise $10,000 to purchase bulletproof vests for the police department’s K9 dogs.
SPF said it chose to launch the fundraiser on Valentine’s Day because of “all the love the community has shown for SPD’s K9 Unit over the years.”
Each vest will be custom-made for four of the Seattle Police Department’s patrol dogs: Frodo, Lex, Delta, and Shadow.
According to SPF, these dogs are regularly deployed on high-risk incidents, and the vests will help protect the dogs from gunfire or sharp objects.
Donors who give $25 or more will receive a 2023 “Animals of SPD” calendar, while supplies last.
SPF has set up a fundraising page to collect donations on its website.
