SEATTLE — Seattle police are investigating a Sunday night shooting inside the Capitol Hill Organized Protest zone.
A planned march was returning to Cal Anderson Park around 10 p.m. when the 911 center got multiple reports of gunfire, a blotter post said.
Police said they staged an area near the edge of CHOP to coordinate with Seattle fire to determine how to enter safely. They then learned the victim was taken to the hospital in a private car.
One person was taken Harborview Medical Center with a gunshot wound, police said. Harborview confirmed it received a patient at about 11 p.m. from Capitol Hill, and that at the time the victim’s condition was serious.
Monday morning, a Harborview representative said the 17-year-old male brought in was treated and released from the emergency department and not admitted. The victim declined to speak with detectives.
Police also said they heard reports of a second shooting but could not confirm the information as there were conflicting reports.
The reported shooting comes on the heels of a shooting early Saturday near the protest zone that left a 19-year-old dead and injured another 33-year-old man, who’s in critical condition at Harborview.
Police responded to the protest zone to find the victims but said they “were met by a violent crowd that prevented officers safe access to the victims.”
Officers found out the men were taken to Harborview by CHOP medics.
The shooter fled the scene, and police did not have a suspect description.
