Seattle police officers arrested a 48-year-old man following a standoff on the rooftop of a building in the 1900 block of 1st Avenue Monday morning, according to the Seattle Police Department.
At 10:54 a.m., police responded to reports of a man in crisis who was armed with a handgun.
When officers arrived, officers found the man screaming and brandishing a firearm in a stairwell of the building, and then on the rooftop.
For public safety, police closed off the surrounding area to pedestrians and motorists.
Seattle’s Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) responded to the scene, along with an SPD K9 unit.
After some time, the man surrendered to the HNT without further incident.
A pellet gun was recovered at the scene. No injuries were reported.
The man was arrested on charges including tampering with a fire alarm, and violation of a court order related to weapons. The man also had an outstanding $2,500 warrant from the King County Sheriff’s Office for failure to transfer title of a vehicle within 45 days.
Additionally, the man is wanted in Snohomish County and is extraditable from King County on multiple warrants, totaling $25,000. The warrants include charges of domestic violence, malicious mischief in the third degree, reckless burning, and three separate charges of resisting arrest, and one charge for driving with a suspended license and failing to transfer a vehicle title.
The man will be booked into the King County Jail.
