SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department has recovered a century-old statue stolen from a fraternity house near the University of Washington campus in 2020.
In Sept. 2020, Seattle police received a 911 call about a burglary at the fraternity house, located in the 2100 block of Northeast 47th Street, which was under construction at the time.
According to police, it appeared the burglar broke through the house’s front door and stole a solid bronze statue that was cast in 1920 to commemorate fraternity members who died while fighting in World War I.
The statue was valued at over $50,000, but fraternity members told police it also held a great amount of sentimental value.
An SPD detective recently received a tip about the statue and located it at a residence in Auburn.
Police returned the statue to the fraternity house, where several current and former members were present to receive it.
A suspect has not yet been located in this case. However, fraternity members told police that they are not interested in pursuing a criminal investigation at this time.
