Seattle police release bodycam footage from Saturday’s fatal shooting

SEATTLE — On Tuesday, Seattle police released the bodycam footage of the deadly weekend shooting at a Seattle federal building.

William Stephens, 39-years-old, died at the scene.

Family and friends of Stephens had recently filed an extreme protection order against him in the days leading up to the shooting.

The video shows Stephens driving into the gate of the federal building. He doesn’t appear to make any attempt to avoid the crash.

Immediately after the crash, Stephens exits the truck, holding a rifle.

While standing in the driveway leading into the crushed gate, Stephens appears to randomly fire his gun into the air.

Seattle police say that’s when the 911 calls started to come in.

As Seattle police rushed to the scene, Stephens put the gun to his own head.

Officers surrounded Stephens and ordered him to drop his gun.

Stephens then pointed the rifle toward officers, resulting in gunfire from the police.

Stephens died at the scene.

Bellevue police told KIRO 7 that they had extensive contact with Stephens in the past and less than a week before this incident, Stephens’ family filed a protection order with police.

The protection order claimed he was a “significant danger in the near future.”

A check of Stephens’ background showed a criminal history, including a 2020 arrest for domestic violence.

The complete, unedited footage can be found on the Seattle Police Department’s YouTube page.

Warning: The footage is graphic.
