Seattle Police have arrested a 29-year-old woman after her 14-year-old son died from injuries sustained during a beating with an extension cord, according to a police statement.
The woman was arrested Thursday at approximately 2:30 p.m. at the family’s residence in the 4000 block of 14th Avenue South.
KIRO 7 News is not naming the woman until she is officially charged.
The arrest occurred after the woman called 911 to report she had been in an altercation with her son and that he was now unresponsive.
During the 911 call, the woman reportedly said she had spanked her son using an extension cord and that it “went too far.”
According to court documents, after officers arrived and provided aid, the 14-year-old boy was transported to Harborview Medical Center.
He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The woman reportedly told police the boy had failed to complete his chores, and she told him, “Butt cutting time.”
The police report detailed that the woman ordered the child to remove his clothing and began striking him with an extension cord.
At one point, the woman reportedly pushed the boy against a wall causing him to fall to the floor.
The woman admitted to continuing to strike her son for an hour while he was on the floor and again when he was standing.
She told officers she stopped hitting him when he became unresponsive, waited about five minutes and then called 911.
According to the report, the woman told officers that there were recording devices inside her home.
The woman was booked into King County Jail for investigation of homicide.
