Seattle Public Schools, teachers union reach agreement to get kids back in the classroom

SEATTLE — Seattle Public Schools and the Seattle Education Association reached a tentative agreement Tuesday to start bringing students back for in-person learning.

Under the plan, preschool and elementary special education students will be back in the classroom March 29.

All other elementary school students would be brought back April 5.

The agreement still needs to be brought to the teachers union for ratification and the SPS board of directors for approval next week.

“We look forward to welcoming our students back in larger numbers. I am grateful to our bargaining teams for putting in very long hours to create a plan that will offer more access for our students to return to in-person learning,” said Superintendent Denise Juneau.
