SEATTLE — A 38-year-old convicted felon was arrested by the Seattle Police SWAT team in Lower Queen Anne on Monday in connection with a drive-by shooting in Greenwood last month, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The suspect is believed to have fired at the driver of a Maserati while driving a rented Jeep. Both vehicles were recovered during the investigation.
Detectives in the Gun Violence Reduction Unit (GVRU) conducted a month-long investigation that led them to the suspect’s location in a residence in the 300 block of 1st Avenue North.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers moved in on the apartment with SWAT.
They observed frantic movement inside, and, believing the suspect to be armed and dangerous, SWAT forced their way inside.
As officers entered the apartment, the suspect attempted to escape by climbing out of a bedroom window onto the ledge of the six-story building.
SWAT officers went to the roof and convinced the suspect to come back inside, given that his only other options were to either surrender or fall from the building.
The suspect then surrendered and was arrested.
Detectives recovered evidence inside the apartment, including two firearms, various calibers of ammunition, firearm magazines, narcotics, and other evidence.
The suspect, as a convicted felon, is prohibited from possessing firearms.
According to the GVRU Lieutenant, the arrest was “possible based on the evidence gathered by North Patrol, and tireless work from GVRU.” He added, “This as an ‘Excellent investigation that culminated with holding the suspect accountable and taking multiple guns out of dangerous hands.’”
The suspect was booked into the King County Jail for felony investigation of assault, drive-by shooting, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
