SEATTLE — Seattle University announced its decision Tuesday to extend the timeframe for remote learning through Jan. 30, due to the continuing and rapid spread of the omicron variant of COVID-19.
Over the holiday break, the university announced its plan to begin the new year in a mostly virtual learning environment. The school originally planned to be remote for the first week of the quarter and return to in-person instruction on Monday, Jan. 10.
Most courses will take place online, with some exceptions for labs, clinical placements and practicums. Residence halls, dining services and other campus operations will remain open during the remote instruction period.
The university requires all students to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and plans to hold additional vaccination clinics on campus in January.
“We strongly recommend that everyone who is eligible to get your booster shot do so as soon as possible. While a decision on whether to require booster shots has yet to be made, we are now asking every member of the campus community to register their vaccination booster once you have received it,” the university said in an email sent to students, staff and faculty.
All students planning to be on campus during the winter quarter will be required to complete and submit documentation of a negative COVID-19 test, including those who are fully vaccinated.
