Official discusses traffic management after collision involving overturned tanker

Seattle’s traffic operations director is addressing whether the city could have done more fix the massive traffic congestion Monday after an overturned tanker truck on Interstate 5.
The northbound and southbound lanes of I-5 in Seattle were shut down for more than eight hours Monday because of an overturned propane tanker truck. The lanes were closed at 10:11am.
The closure extended into the evening commute and caused backups all over the city.

Reporter Graham Johnson is speaking with Seattle's traffic operations director and is putting together the full story on the congestion response for KIRO 7 at 5 p.m.  Watch with us on TV or use this link for the KIRO 7 News livestream.

The tanker crash also involved two other vehicles. Three men were taken to Haborview Medical Center in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Seattle police and the Washington State Patrol evacuated the homeless camps under I-5 and extinguished campfires as a precaution.
A hazmat team offloaded propane from the truck’s tank, and the tank was towed to a local tow yard.
Both directions of I-5 reopened about 6 p.m. Monday.
