SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Washington — A 51-year-old Concrete resident was shot and injured by a Sedro-Woolley officer during a stop on Wednesday night, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Kelsey Harding.

Harding said at about 11:19 p.m., Mount Vernon police attempted to stop the driver who was believed to be in a stolen car. This occurred at College Way and Interstate 5.

The driver fled onto I-5 and officers backed off, Harding said.

A Skagit County deputy later spotted the vehicle, but it was officers with the Sedro-Woolley Police Department who stopped the driver at North Fruitdale Road and McGarigle Road.

Harding said a Sedro-Woolley police officer shot the driver.

The driver was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Bellingham.

Investigators have not released any details about the incident.

The Skagit-Island Multiple Agency Response Team was called to investigate.
