SEQUIM, Wash. — A 20-year-old woman was arrested after a police chase that ended with her destroying a stolen pickup north of Sequim.
At 7:11 p.m. Monday, a Sequim man was at a yoga class at the old Dungeness School House when he heard his pickup start and then saw it head south toward Sequim.
The man called 911 and a deputy heading northbound on Sequim-Dungeness Way saw the truck heading southbound near Towne Road.
When the deputy tried to stop the driver, she sped away, reaching speeds of up to 90 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The deputy had been pursuing the truck for about three miles when the driver tried to pass a car in front of her, lost control, began to swerve and then went into a skid and into a ditch at the intersection of Jesslyn Lane and Sequim-Dungeness Way.
The truck became slightly airborne, crossed Jesslyn Lane and then landed in a yard, taking out several feet of chain link fence and several small fruit trees.
The truck eventually came to rest upside down on a small hedge next to the driveway.
Kylee A. Flores, 20, was arrested at gunpoint. Police say she had two outstanding warrants for her arrest and was carrying drug paraphernalia that had residue that was suspected to be heroin.
She was treated for a minor cut on her hand and then was transported to the Clallam County Sheriff's Department Jail. Flores may be charged with theft of motor vehicle, attempt to elude, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
The truck, a 2004 Ford F150, was a total loss. Damages to the landscaping, stop sign, and other road signs are estimated to be in the thousands.
