Sesame Street celebrated its 50th anniversary in Seattle this past week with a host of different activities for fans of the show.
Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind the show, celebrated with a nationwide road trip. On Thursday, the production toured Seattle to film a segment for the show with local children. On Friday, characters Abby Cadabby and Nina visited Madigan Army Medical Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord to highlight the show's ongoing work with military families.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan also issued a proclamation marking July 27, 2019 as Sesame Street Day to honor the show's anniversary and its commitment to children in the area.
“Seattle is thrilled to host Abby Cadabby, Big Bird, and the entire Sesame Street family to celebrate the profound impact they have had in the lives of children everywhere for the past 50 years,” Durkan said. “Their visit has brought joy to so many of our Seattle’s kids, spreading a message of community and inclusivity. We’re excited to help shine a spotlight on all the ways Sesame Workshop continues to make a difference.”
Before coming to Seattle, Sesame Street also visited New York, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, Dallas, Kansas City and Denver.
