Sex offender tried to force his way into apartment after following woman home, police say

SEATTLE — Seattle police east precinct officers said they arrested a sex offender who followed a woman home, tried to force his way into her son’s apartment, and then threatened to kill her when she wouldn’t let him inside.

The woman had just stepped off a Metro bus at 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday when she noticed a man standing about 30 feet away from her on a path between some trees.

As she began to walk home, the man followed. He then caught up with her and started a conversation. The victim told police she tried to be friendly but eventually asked him to leave her alone.

As the man continued to follow the woman, she decided to change course and go to her son’s apartment nearby.

The man followed her right to the front door, and when the woman went inside and tried to close the door, the man kept the door open with his hand and foot.

As the two struggled at the door, the woman began screaming for help. The man then moved his hand and foot away, which allowed the woman to quickly close and lock the door.

As the woman called 911, the man screamed at her through the closed door and tried to look at her through the peephole.

She told officers that the man said he would kill her if she didn’t open the door. He continued to yell threats at her until he heard sirens from approaching police officers.

Officers arrived and searched the apartment building until they found the man and took him into custody.

He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of burglary and harassment. Alternate charges were requested for failure to register as a sex offender.
