Shooting in Queen Anne leaves man with life-threatening injuries

A shooting in Queen Anne left a man with life-threatening injuries early Sunday, Seattle police said.

Officers responded to a fight at 2nd Avenue North and Mercer Street just before 2 a.m. While they were investigating, a man was shot in the crowd. As officers attempted to give aid to the man, the crowd continued to surround him. Medics were eventually able to render aid and he was transported to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The crowd then began breaking windows and surrounding officers, according to police. The crowd continued to grow and additional officers arrived to help manage the large group.

Police saw a man walking several blocks from the crime scene, and a person in vehicle driving by yelled at officers indicating that the man was the suspect.

The suspect was detained and taken into custody. The suspect's car, with a gun visible inside, was impounded pending a search warrant. He was later booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault.

Police will continue to investigate.
