One dead after shots fired near Central Washington University

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — A shelter-in-place order was given to Central Washington University after shots were fired and a person was killed near the campus.

According to the Central Washington University alert, at about 12:15 p.m., shots were fired. At 1:18 p.m., an emergency alert was sent to the campus telling students and faculty to shelter-in-place.

According to the Ellensburg Police Department, police are actively looking for a suspect.

The suspect is described as a man with facial tattoos that include a cross, and dark hair in a mullet-style. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with a hood, light colored jeans, and white shoes.

One person was fatally shot and was known to the suspect, according to the Ellensburg Police Department.

At 2:59 p.m, the shelter-in-place order was lifted.
