Six people displaced in Kent house fire

KENT, Wash. — Six people were displaced by a house fire in Kent Sunday night.

The fire at the home in the 12400 block of South 238th Place was reported by the occupants at 9:52 p.m. after they smelled smoke and their smoke detectors sounded.

The family, including their dog, were able to get out safely.

When firefighters arrived, they found the back of the home engulfed in flames.

Firefighters said the flames had already spread to both stories of the house and caused damage to every room.

It took firefighters from the Puget Sound and Renton regional fire authorities 50 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.

Because of the heavy damage to the home, firefighters remained at the scene throughout the night to make sure no hot spots flared up.

Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
