Skagit County Public Health investigates cluster of COVID-19 cases

SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. — Skagit County Public Health said it is investigating a cluster of recently confirmed COVID-19 cases traced to a group of 60 people that met in early March.

According to health officials, more than half of the attendees who were at the gathering either are confirmed or probable cases.

“This situation clearly illustrates the highly contagious nature of COVID-19 and emphasizes the importance of following social distancing guidelines in order to control the spread of the virus,” Public Health officials said.

County Health officials said it is contacting all symptomatic and asymptotic attendees of that meeting, as well as those who came in close contact with the symptomatic attendees.

All have been advised to quarantine or self-isolate, officials said.

The county health officer has asked everyone to abide by all health officer recommendations and people should postpone or cancel any gathering beyond immediate household members.

Health officials said, “Everyone should assume that anyone they come into contact with could have COVID-19. Limit movement outside the home to essential activities only. People at-high risk, including people over 60, people with underlying health conditions, people with compromised immune systems, and pregnant women should shelter in place now.”
