KING COUNTY, Wash. — The pilot of a small plane that went down in a lake near Covington Monday was rescued by kayakers.
The plane crashed into Lake Morton shortly before noon.
According to the King County Sheriff's Office, witnesses saw a plane with no engine crash into the middle of the lake.
The pilot, who was the only one in the aircraft, was rescued by neighbors who paddled kayaks out to retrieve the victim, Mountain View Fire said.
The pilot, who was later identified as 19-year-old Brett Easter, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
On Tuesday he was released from the hospital.
Video from Chopper 7 showed one of the plane's wings was nearly fully separated from the fuselage.
The plane is sinking. A King County marine unit is responding.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Bureau will investigate the cause of the crash.
