Snohomish County drug K9 recovering after fentanyl exposure

Sully, a Snohomish County drug force K9, was exposed to near-fatal dose of fentanyl Thursday morning, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Thursday morning, Sully and his handler assisted the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office with a search warrant in Everett.

After detectives cleared the apartment, Sully entered to search inside.

Sully - who is trained in methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin - searched for about 10 minutes before returning to the car.

About 15 minutes later, Sully - who is normally very hyper - was unresponsive in his kennel.

Sully’s handler tapped Sully’s face several times, in an attempt to wake him up.

Sully didn’t respond.

His handler retrieved Narcan and administered two doses, and then called for backup from other Task Force units at the scene.

After a third dose of Narcan was given to Sully, his handler raced to the ER vet.

On the way, Sully began to wake up.

After medical staff checked his vitals and monitored him for some time, Sully was released from the animal hospital.

According to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Sully is very tired but doing well.
