Snow creates dicey conditions for holiday travel at Snoqualmie Pass

Snow at Snoqualmie Pass could make holiday travel tricky for people making their way across the state.

“It’s my first time driving out in crazy snow like this, so I’m just trying to be safe,” said driver Jesus Soto.

KIRO 7 caught up with Soto as he was taking precautions by chaining up the tires on his SUV. He was on his way to the Tri-Cities to pick up an extra special Christmas present.

“Trying to buy my little brother a little puppy for Christmas and I’m pretty sure he’s really excited about it, so it’s worth the trip,” he said.

Soto was one of hundreds of people who packed the pass Sunday. Some people came to the area to ski and snowboard.

“I’m not used to all this snow, so it was kind of different conditions and stuff, but it was really good,” said Christine Woodward.

People who weren’t skiing were traveling for the holiday. Many stopped at the pass to stretch their legs and play in the snow.

“It’s nice to have the snow. The dogs love to play in it, the kids love to play in it, as you can see,” said Belinda Gaudette.

The later it got, the worse the conditions were.

“In those conditions, slow, you just have to be careful and watch out for the other guy. Don’t be in a hurry,” Gaudette.

Soto said he planned to pack his patience so he could come home safe with a Christmas puppy.

“We weren't really expecting it to be this bad, but, you know, winter time, it is what it is. It's what you have to do for family sometimes,” he said.
