RENTON, Wash. — Throughout Renton on Monday was a blanket of white as residents shoveled and scraped their way into the week.

On social media, the City of Renton account urged drivers to use caution on the roadways.

“It is very dangerous in certain areas. But for the most part, we found the roads pretty clear,” said Matthew, a local parent.

For Renton Public Schools, classes were delayed, but not canceled.

“I was a little shocked to see that we still had school,” said Matthew.

On Facebook, parents post photos of their drives to their kid’s schools. Some reported online that they saw school buses stuck on side streets, canceled, or driven into ditches.

A spokesperson with the Renton School District said that’s just not true.  Telling KIRO 7, “While a few buses struggled on side streets, none of our buses were in a ditch.”

Renton’s Public Works Department is standing by its work to keep residents and roads safe.

“I know we’re out there, doing what’s right. Doing our job,” says Stephen Forsythe, with Public Works.

Forsythe said local crews are working around-the-clock, with employees taking on 12-hour shifts.  He says the department is continuing to monitor the roads and the forecast, as they plan out more routes for Monday night into Tuesday morning.
