Social worker unknowingly brings drugs into Snohomish jail; no charges filed

On December 13, Snohomish County Jail’s Intelligence and K9 Unit collaborated with detectives to seize suspected narcotics being delivered to a 35-year-old inmate.

The incident occurred during a social worker’s scheduled visit. The worker arrived with a package labeled as legal documents.

Investigators had received prior information suggesting the package contained prescription opiates.

During the visit, the social worker was detained for questioning, and the package was examined in the inmate’s presence.

A search revealed at least nine sublingual strips of suspected Suboxone, a prescription opiate commonly abused in correctional facilities.

The investigation determined the social worker was likely unaware of the contraband and was not involved in the smuggling attempt. She was not arrested or charged.

The incident remains under investigation.
