SEATTLE — Seattle Supersonics legend Shawn Kemp will make a name for himself in a new industry this week.
Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis will open on Friday on First Avenue and Denny Way near Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena.
Kemp, who has 10% ownership in the store, is partnering with two industry veterans.
The former Sonics forward said he has plans and hopes for more locations in which he’ll have a higher percentage of ownership.
“I hope that Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis will be an inspiration for people to get involved with the legal cannabis industry, especially people of color,” said Kemp.
His former teammate, Gary Payton, is expected to join him for the grand opening with a green ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:45 p.m., followed by the official opening to the public at 1 p.m.
A 30-by-80-foot mural showing Kemp playing basketball in his Seattle Supersonics uniform is on the side of the shop’s building.
