KENT, Wash. — The Sounder south line train was temporarily suspended after a person was hit and killed on the tracks.
Kent police said they received a report around 4:20 p.m. that a train had struck a pedestrian in the area of South 212th Street and 77th Avenue South.
Authorities said when they arrived at the scene, the conductor of the train told them that a man had lain on the tracks and did not move when the conductor activated the train’s emergency whistles and horns.
Police said the conductor also activated the emergency brakes but could not stop the train in time.
The man was declared dead at the scene.
The tracks were closed for the investigation but train service later resumed.
