Soupocalypse is taking over the Fremont neighborhood starting Thursday! It’s your chance to “soup hop” for a good cause.
The unique concept came to life in 2021 by Mischief on Canal’s head chef, Chef John. General Manager Elsa Silva said the idea of Soupocalypse was to help keep Fremont restaurants in business during the pandemic.
“You know, it’s soup season, too. It’s winter and you want something warm, so he came up with the idea of having a soup walk and trying to engage with other restaurants,” Silva said.
Community and keeping others in business was the main goal of Soupocalypse in 2021. Now the demand is growing, and Silva says this year is bigger than ever.
“Right now we’re thinking 600. You know, we want — if you go to the other locations — we want those restaurants to say this event is happening, here’s your passport,” Silva said.
That passport she’s talking about is key! Carry it with you to any of the 15 participating restaurants, and get a sticker anytime you order soup. Whenever you reach eight, head back to Mischief on Canal, show them your passport, and pick up your prize bag!
“Everybody is excited and the reaction is really great,” Silva said. “People say it’s cool that somebody is trying to support the community and other businesses, and it’s part of being something, and that’s how you start things and keep them moving.”
The event starts Thursday and goes through Sunday. You have four days for eight soups — that’s just two soups a day! For a full list of participating restaurants, head to FremontMischief.com
