OLYMPIA — State Senator Mark Mullet has officially announced his bid for Washington governor in 2024.
Mullet has served in the state Senate since 2013, having last won reelection by less than 100 votes in 2020 when he went up against fellow Democrat Ingrid Anderson.
For his gubernatorial campaign, his focus is on housing and homelessness.
“There is no candidate for governor at this point focused on the biggest challenges facing our state including affordable housing, reducing homelessness, creating jobs and making neighborhoods safe,” Mullet said in a news release announcing his campaign. “Too many families can’t afford, even on good salaries, the rising cost of living. Too many families are worried about the direction of public safety in our state, which is why we need different leadership in Olympia.”
With incumbent Jay Inslee not running for another term, 16 candidates have registered to run for his position in 2024 -- nine Democrats and six Republicans.
State Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz announced her campaign for governor in early May, while state Attorney General Bob Ferguson did the same a week prior.
