STEVENS PASS, Wash. — Dangerous driving conditions caused by ice and snow forced the closure of Highway 2 this week.
That also forced Stevens Pass Ski Resort to close.
Now that the highway is back open and conditions have improved, the resort is welcoming back guests.
Skiers and snowboards returned on Wednesday but even more of the mountain will open Thursday morning.
The Nordic Center and the front side will open at 9 a.m., and the backside at 9:30 a.m.
Earlier this week, U.S. Route 2 was basically a sheet of ice. Washington State Department of Transportation crews worked for days to make it drivable.
The highway has been closed on and off since summer due to the Bolt Creek fire and most recently due to snow, ice and avalanche danger.
The Nordic Center is returning to its usual hours of operation, Thursday through Sunday from 9 am-4 pm. The anticipated footprint for ski trails is Mainline, Scenic, Sidetrack, and Guthrie Loop, while Clickity Clack, Stepping Stoker and Hobo Hop are the expected snowshoe trails.
