More rain, mountain pass snow to continue Sunday

WESTERN WASHINGTON — After a vigorous weather system moved through Western Washington on Saturday, bringing with it heavy rain and wind, Sunday morning will see scattered showers and breezy winds.

More rain will be expected at times on Sunday, though it won’t be as windy.

The mountain pass snow will fall at times with another one to four inches possible. It will be chilly in the lowlands with temperatures around 50.

Sunday is expected to be a little calmer after winds were forecast to top out at around 35 mph around Puget Sound on Saturday and even a little stronger near the coast and farther north.

Some areas around Puget Sound experienced power outages Saturday afternoon. There was an outage in Woodinville that affected customers due to downed power lines.

Puget Sound Energy also reported an outage in Poulsbo that affected more than 2,300 customers around 2 p.m.

In the mountains, periods of snow occurred with a few inches at Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie Pass.

A winter weather advisory was put in effect for the Mount Baker and Mount Rainier areas through 6 p.m. Sunday. Six to 18 inches of snow were forecast.

NEXT WEEK

Monday: This could actually be a fairly quiet day with some clouds and sunshine. But a few showers could be around.

Tuesday: Rain is likely to return, and it’ll probably be pretty windy too. Right now, it doesn’t look like we’ll have a major wind event, though we’ll be watching the forecast models closely over the next few days in case a low pressure center develops and gets close to Western Washington.

Mid-week and beyond: Unfortunately, while it looked like we could get some drying, the forecast models are now pointing at continued soggy weather with rain at times. The risk of landslides due to excessive rainfall will continue to increase.
