Street blocked in downtown Seattle as fire department investigates natural gas leak

SEATTLE — All eastbound lanes of South Jackson Street in downtown Seattle were blocked as fire crews responded to reports of a natural gas leak.

According to the Seattle Fire Department, a HazMat team entered the building, which was evacuated as a safety precaution, and nobody was hurt.

The HazMat team found a malfunctioning trash disposal device, which was shut off.

Once the building was ventilated, it was safe for residents to return.
