Suitcases containing $1 million worth of meth found in Washington forest

MAZAMA, Wash. — A K-9 unit with the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office helped Homeland Security Investigations find two suitcases full of methamphetamine in the Okanogan National Forest on Monday.

In a news release, deputies said the suitcases contained 186 pounds of meth, with a street value of around $1 million.

The meth was found in a heavily brushed area near the town of Mazama, officials said.

Mazama is an unincorporated community located about 14 miles northwest of Winthrop.

Sgt. Gene Davis and his K-9 partner Gunner, who have been working together for more than six years, found the meth as part of a cross-border air smuggling investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office said K-9 Gunner was purchased with funds raised by Okanogan County citizens.
