EVERETT, Wash. — A family in Everett captured a man on surveillance video attempting to steal their children’s toys in their backyard.
The video shows the man trying to steal a kid’s bike, before ultimately taking a scooter instead.
Shelby Farrens’ children were inside of the house at the time, while she was at work, and watched the incident as it happened.

Farrens says this is not the first time that they have had things taken since moving into the neighborhood. In the past thefts have occurred in front of the house or in the driveway.
“It’s my kids,” Farrens’ said when asked about what was different about this theft. "They actually came in to my property. How are we supposed to stay safe?”
Farrens says her kid’s are old enough to be home alone but said, “I don’t want to leave them here because we’ve got people just helping themselves. It doesn’t feel safe anymore.”
