Suspect accused of killing girlfriend arrested

KING COUNTY, Wash. — The search for a 38-year-old homicide suspect wanted in the death of his 27-year-old girlfriend is over.

Renton police said Vaughn Alexander Weems was arrested by the Valley SWAT Team after information they received led them to a Tukwila hotel.

On Aug. 21, officers were called at about 2:19 a.m. to a parking lot at a multi-housing complex located in the 2200 block of Benson Road South in Renton.

According to police, a person who called 911 said a woman had been shot in the chest and the suspected shooter had fled the scene.

When officers arrived, they were told a family member of the victim had taken her to Valley Medical Center, where the victim died from her injuries.

Police said the shooting appeared to be domestic-violence related.

Days later, police released a photo of Weems, identifying him as the suspect.

A warrant was issued for Weems’ arrest for second-degree murder and while he was on the run, he was considered armed and dangerous.

Weems, who was on the run for more than a month, was booked into the King County Jail.

The Renton Police Department said on Friday, “We hope this arrest provides some semblance of comfort to those who knew and cared for the victim of this horrendous crime.”
