KIRKLAND, Wash. — A Kirkland woman was nearly stabbed to death inside her house on Sunday night. The victim staggered out of the house and collapsed in the street. When police arrived, at first they thought she had been hit by car.

The incident happened in the 11300 block of 100th Avenue North in Kirkland. Neighbors told KIRO7 the victim has lived in the house for a few years and works at Microsoft.

On Monday, police arrested 36-year-old Kevin Harper, from Arlington, for attempted murder, robbery and attempted kidnapping.

Neighbors told KIRO 7 that, recently, men had been working at the victim's house on weekends. Investigators say the stabbing had to do with work being done at her house.

KIRO 7 has learned that Harper was charged with murder for killing a family in the city of West Valley, in Eastern Washington, in 2011.

According to court documents, issues with how the prosecutors handled the case kept them from getting the court to throw out a plea deal to lesser charges so they could reinstate the murder charges. Harper was only sentenced for unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property, taken from the crime scene where the Goggin family was killed.

Harper was released from prison in July 2017 and filed papers in Snohomish County last December to change his name to Kevin Lee Evans.

Harper is in the King County Jail. On Tuesday afternoon a judge set his bail at $2 million.
