A 20-year-old Renton man was charged with theft and attempted theft after police said he stole a Rolex watch from one jewelry store and tried to steal a ring from another jeweler in March.
Police think the man, Kendul Dakiwan Looney, is a serial thief targeting jewelry stores in multiple Western Washington communities.
Looney is charged in Cowlitz County Superior Court with two courts of second-degree theft and attempting to elude a police vehicle for an incident that happened February 10. Police believe in that case, Looney and his associates stole phones valued at roughly $5,000 from two cell phone stores. Officers say the getaway vehicle fled and crashed when pursued it.
Looney also is suspected, but not charged, in a Bellingham jewelry theft from the JCPenney at Bellis Fair Mall in March. He’s also suspected but not charged in cases from Everett and Kirkland.
The cases for which he’s charged occurred at March at the Diamond Banque and Vitaly Exquisite Custom Jewelry in Bellevue, police said.
In each of those cases – including the Diamond Banque robbery where police said Looney ran out with the Rolex – at least one employee identified him from a photo lineup. He was arrested on May 22 after police said he and others fled in a stolen Nissan Sentra.
Looney is being held in King County Jail and is expected to have an arraignment, where he'll enter a plea, later in June.
