Eaton, 26, is charged in the murder of his girlfriend Cassandra Scaff. Scaff 's body was found inside a home in South Hill on Jan. 28.

Friends say Scaff and Eaton dated but that he was abusive and often violent.

“He’s always had really bad anger issues,” Gena Wilcox said.

Reese Vincent told KIRO 7 she hopes Scaff's death helps other women facing those circumstances.

“I wish it didn’t happen,” Vincent said. “I hope it brings light to other situations and other girls who are in this situation and helps them get out.”

After Scaff’s murder, Eaton fled to Canada, where he crossed the border illegally and was arrested by police in Surrey. But when Canadian police tried to hand him over to Pierce County detectives, Eaton claimed he was seeking asylum. The extradition process dragged on for four months.

“We’ve been going through the paperwork and Canadian officials have been cooperative. We were able to go up and put him into custody and bring him back down to hold him accountable,” said Pierce County Sheriff’s Detective Ed Troyer.

Scaff's friends say they're glad he is back in the United States facing justice.

“I feel like he deserves to face prison time, that is way worse than death,” Vincent said. “He doesn’t deserve the easy way out for what he did.”

Eaton pleaded not guilty to a murder charge and was ordered held on $5 million bail.
