Suspected DUI driver accused of killing motorcyclist in still not booked into jail, deputies say

PUYALLUP, Wash. — The man accused of rear-ending and killing a motorcyclist in the South Hill area of Puyallup has not been booked into jail days after the deadly crash.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect was arrested at the crash site on 94th Avenue East and 144 Street East on Wednesday, sent to a hospital but has not been booked into jail yet as of Friday night.

“He could have been on medication. He could have been suffering from a medical illness which caused these other things that look like impairment,” said Deputy Carly Cappetto with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.

She says it could take months or even years for toxicology lab results to show what, if any substances were in the suspect’s system.

A day after the deadly crash, a statewide campaign to increase DUI patrols kicked off across the state.

“We’re in the last couple of weeks of August, which are probably our most horrific weeks out of the whole year for DUI’s,” said Deputy Cappetto.
