Tacoma Fire Department to honor fallen firefighter with public memorial service on Saturday

TACOMA, Wash. — The Tacoma Fire Department is holding a public memorial service on Saturday to honor one of its own.

Robert “Bo” Schiemer, 46, died on Jan. 29 after a “long fight with duty-related cancer,” according to the TFD.

He was an 11-year veteran of the department and earned the title of “Firefighter of the Year” twice.

“It is hard to put into words how difficult a loss this is for his family, our department, and the community,” said Fire Chief Tory Green in a Facebook post. “He has been an inspiration to us all.”

The memorial service will be held at the Tacoma Dome Exhibition Hall at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Drivers are advised to expect brief traffic delays on the procession route through downtown Tacoma between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The service will be broadcast live on TV Tacoma and streamed on www.tvtacoma.com and the City of Tacoma’s Facebook page.
