TACOMA, Wash. — A home under construction in Tacoma was destroyed in an early morning fire Friday.
Tacoma fire crews were called to the1200 block of South Ferry Street around 3:30 a.m. The home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
No one was inside.
Firefighters started battling the flames in defensive mode from the outside to keep the flames from spreading to nearby homes.
A second alarm was called to bring more crews and equipment to help fight the flames. At 4 a.m., crews reported the main part of the fire had been knocked down.
Traffic is blocked in both directions on South 12th Street between Sprague Avenue and Trafton Street as crews continue to put out hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
