TACOMA, Wash. — Tacoma officers are investigating after a man was shot and killed on Sunday.

The Tacoma Police Department said the shooting happened around 2 a.m. at a hookah lounge in the 5200 block of South Tacoma Way.

Police got a report that a person was shot. When they got there, they found an adult man shot multiple times in the chest.

A woman who witnessed the shooting says three men were “accosting” another woman and trying to coerce her into doing something she was refusing to participate in.

When the woman stepped in she was assaulted by the suspects and hit with the butt of a pistol. Another man who was watching then also stepped in and was shot. The three men then escaped.

When police arrived they saw bystanders doing CPR on the victim. Tacoma Police and Fire then tried to save the man’s life but he died.

A neighbor told KIRO 7 that the shooting was disheartening, but they still feel the neighborhood is safe

“Unfortunately when you have an area that has a lot of establishments, eating, and alcohol, people tend to get rowdy. It’s kind of just human nature but definitely not something to discourage people to come out,” she said.

Detectives and Crime Scene Technicians are processing the crime scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
