SEATTLE — Seattle police said they have booked an 18-year-old man into the King County Jail for the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old on March 2 in downtown Seattle.
The 15-year-old, identified by his grandmother as Michael Del Bianco, was shot in the stomach near the intersection of Third Avenue and Pine Street.
The teen was taken to Harborview Medical Center where he later died.
The grandmother of the victim had called for a bigger police presence and an end to the violence in downtown Seattle.
“We have to protect our city, we have to protect our children, otherwise this kind of stuff happens,” said Jodi Gulling, who said she raised Michael along with “a village.”
Gulling said Michael loved sports and river rafting and was loved by many.
Since the violence, the Seattle Police Department has boosted its presence in the troubled area of Third and Pine.
Chief Adrian Diaz had said previously that the police department would launch an initiative to curb the violence in the area. Since then, a mobile precinct has been set up along with more officers patrolling the area.
