The teen who was rushed to Harborview Medical Center on Memorial Day after being pulled from the water at Magnuson Beach has died.
The teen, identified as Ryan Payne, died Tuesday morning, according to Harborview Medical Center.
Firefighters were called to the beach around 2:30 p.m. for a swimmer in distress who reportedly went under water. It wasn’t immediately clear how long the 14-year-old was under.
Bystanders pulled Payne onto a floating dock about 100 feet from shore, according to firefighters, who said an off-duty firefighter, nurse and doctor all worked to help the teen.
“They got the guy onto the Seattle Police Department boat and then that boat brought him in,” said Kyle Turver, who told KIRO 7 it was devastating to watch. “They put him on a stretcher and then they rushed him up that way and he had blood all over his face.”
Payne was reportedly with two other swimmers at the time. Firefighters say they searched the area and didn’t find any other people under water.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help Payne's mother, Heather Moran.
