MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — The Mount Vernon Police Department says a teen from Bellingham tried to outrun them in a stolen car after giving officers a fake name.

On Tuesday, just before 2 a.m., officers pulled the car over on East Fir Street because it was missing a rear license plate.

When officers asked for license and registration, the driver didn’t have them, and instead gave a fake name.

When the officer told the driver to turn off the vehicle, the department says the teen quickly reversed, backing into the patrol car before speeding away.

As the driver reversed, another officer on the scene had to quickly move out of the way for fear of being hit.

No one was hurt.

Officers tried chasing the car, but terminated the pursuit because the car didn’t have any lights on and they didn’t want to cause any danger to other drivers.

No word whether the teen is facing any consequences for what happened.
