Teenager shot during a dispute outside the Tukwila Community Center

TUKWILA, Wash. — A teenager showed up at a hospital with a gunshot wound following an argument on Friday night in Tukwila.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Tukwila Police answered reports of a shooting at the Tukwila Community Center.

Police said there were reports of a dispute between a group of teenagers when shots were heard. Those involved left the scene in separate cars.

Police stopped a car matching the description of one of the vehicles near Gateway Drive and Interurban Avenue South, but they released the teens because there was not enough probable cause to make an arrest.

Soon after the shooting police were told that a teenager arrived at a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Detectives said the teenager refused to speak with them.

The Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is investigating what led to the shooting and said that no visitors or staff were hurt because the center was closed at the time of the shooting.

The Tukwila Parks & Recreation released the following statement:

We are aware of the shooting incident that occurred last night in the parking lot of the Tukwila Community Center. At the time of the incident, the facility was closed, and no staff or visitors were present.

We wish a speedy recovery for the victim and their family. Tukwila Community Center is secured, and we are working closely with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. The center is open today for regular operations.
