Teens claim they found suitcase with human remains in TikTok video

SEATTLE — Hours before Seattle police put up crime scene tape to investigate the discovery of human remains at Duwamish Head in West Seattle, it appears a group of young people made a video of that discovery.

Videos posted to the social media platform TikTok show a suitcase washed up on the rocks and the people who found it stepping back because of an odor.

In the video, which has now gone viral on the internet, the people who made the discovery said they called police twice, but it took nearly three hours for authorities to arrive.

Seattle police on Monday acknowledged a response time of about 1 1/2 hour and said the 911 call was for a suitcase that smelled and that they didn't realize it contained human remains.

The TikTok video indicates the young people were led to the site using the game app Randonautica, which sends GPS coordinates of places for users to visit.

The King County Medical Examiner’s office has not yet released any information about the person who died, and Seattle police continue to investigate.
