Thieves steal ‘A Christmas Story’ leg lamp from plumbing business

MARYSVILLE, Wash. — An iconic lamp made famous by the movie ‘A Christmas Story’ is missing in Marysville.

For those who need a refresher on the 1983 classic: Ralphie Parker’s dad won the ‘indescribably beautiful’ lamp in a contest.

A replica was stolen Monday from the window display of Larry’s Plumbing Supply. Now the owner needs help catching the grinches responsible.

“I was in the process of getting ready for work and my cellphone was blowing up at a more frequent than normal rate,” Erich Klemp told KIRO 7 News.

He said he had nine voicemails from ADT and Marysville police, saying someone had breached the front window.

“I immediately go to the camera to review the footage and I see somebody punching the window and breaking it and stealing my coveted leg lamp.”

He said he searched the entire store and the only thing taken—was his lamp.

Klemp is a huge fan of the movie. He told KIRO 7 that when he first purchased the property and converted it into a plumbing showroom he knew he wanted to create a holiday window.

“I can remember that as a kid going to the mall with my parents, every store— Bon Marche, JC Penny’s, Fredrick and Nelson’s had a display window. And I wanted one too and being a fan of ‘A Christmas Story’ the first thing I said was, ‘We’re buying a leg lamp.’”

As it turns out, the window was more ‘fra-GEE-leh’ than expected. Klemp told KIRO 7 it cost him $3,000 to replace the window.

He isn’t letting the incident dull his holiday spirit.

“I ordered a new one,” he told KIRO 7. “They’re not going to beat me; they’re not going to win.”

Klemp told KIRO 7 it should arrive in time for him to enjoy it for a good week or so before Christmas.
