Thousands of gallons of gas spill on Harbor Island

SEATTLE — Seattle fire crews are at the scene of a large gasoline spill on Seattle’s Harbor Island early Thursday.

It happened at the Shell Oil Terminal in the 2500 Block of 13th Avenue Southwest.

The state Department of Ecology said an estimated 13,800 gallons spilled but there are no impacts on the water.

Hazmat crews were called and the area close to the spill was evacuated as a safety precaution.

Seattle fire said the tank and pump have been shut off and secured, and the spill is in a contained area.

Crews have set up a 1,000-foot safety perimeter around the building. Seattle fire said Shell is bringing in specialized crews to clean up the spill.
