A collision in Renton has left four people dead and three people critically injured, according to Puget Sound Fire.
One more person had minor injuries.
At about 12:43 p.m. on Tuesday, medics and firefighters responded to a collision at the intersection of 140th Avenue Southeast and Southeast 192nd Street.
Multiple vehicles with heavy damage were initially reported with people trapped.
Four people died at the crash scene. There were also three people transported to Harborview with life-threatening injuries.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, the people killed were a 38-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old boy.
The woman has been identified as Andrea Hudson, according to a verified GoFundMe.
The three children were identified by the King County Medical Examiner as Eloise Wilcoxson, 12, Boyd B. Brown, 12, and Matilda Wilcoxson, 13. GoFundMe accounts have been set up for their families here and here.
According to the GoFundMe, Andrea was driving a van near her home with her two children and three other children when it was struck by another vehicle.
Andrea and the three other children were killed in the crash. Andrea’s two children were critically injured and flown to Harborview Medical Center.
According to the GoFundMe: “Andrea Hudson was an amazing mother, devoted wife, beloved daughter, and dear friend to so many. She was a ray of light to those around her, and always had a smile on her face. The most patient and loving mother a child could hope to have. She homeschooled all three of her children, and dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed spending time adventuring with them in nature, and was an avid health enthusiast and cook. Her absence has left a hole in our hearts and will be felt by many.”
Because of the magnitude of the event, Puget Sound Fire says the crash was considered a mass casualty incident.
“They went through their triage process and called for additional resources. We had fire companies there from Puget Sound, Renton, and King County Medic One there to provide aid to all the injured people,” said Pat Pawlak with Puget Sound Fire.
Officials say speed may have been a factor in the crash, and neighbors said the intersection is dangerous, and that they have brought up concerns to the county multiple times.
“We live here, we don’t feel safe, it can hit my house, too, anyone’s house over here, we have babies,” said MD Rahman.
According to the King County Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old man who was among the injured was identified as the causing driver. He is currently under guard at Harborview Medical Center. Criminal charges are pending.
“They have not gotten us a stop sign, or the police presence isn’t very active out here, and the speed is insane out here,” said Tariq Suseyi. “Until somebody dies, maybe they’re going to make some changes. I hope this is going to be the change.”
