Top Pot: ‘We are ready' for return of Golden Tate, once hailed as doughnut caper

When he was a rookie for the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, wide receiver Golden Tate entered a Top Pot donuts when it wasn’t open for the shop’s famous Maple bars.

Tate’s 3 a.m. visit prompted response from Bellevue Police officers who gave him a warning for trespassing. The story made local headlines calling Tate the great donut caper.

With the upcoming Seahawks-Detroit Lions game, Top Pot is poking some fun at Tate.

"They're irresistible," Tate told The Seattle Times after the incident. "It was kind of a foolish mistake that won't happen again."

At the time, Tate lived in the building where the Top Pot was located. Officers determined that Tate and his friend entered the Top Pot through a backdoor that was left open in a hallway.

“I’m not disappointed in a guy being in a doughnut shop when they’ve got maple bars like Top Pot has,” Pete Carroll said in 2010. “However, under the circumstances I think they were closed or they were trying to close or something like that. So that’s definitely one. We talked about it, addressed it and he’s most remorseful about it and all that.”

Tate was chosen by Seattle in the second round of the NFL draft in April 2010. He signed with the Lions in 2014.

The Lions play the Seahawks in Seattle on Saturday evening.
